Waste Enforcement Structures are now in place. (Contd.)

Last year saw the introduction of 3 WERLAs (Waste Enforcement Regional Lead Authorities). They are The Eastern Midlands Region, The Southern Region and The Connacht Ulster Region.

The Waste Enforcement Regional Lead Authorities (WERLAs) have responsibility for coordinating waste enforcement actions within regions. They will set priorities and common objectives for waste enforcement, ensuring consistent enforcement of waste legislation across the three existing waste management planning regions while leaving local authority personnel as first responders on the ground to specific breaches of waste legislation. The WERLAs will facilitate more streamlining of the tasks currently undertaken in the waste enforcement area. This will allow for a more focused enforcement of the Packaging Regulations.

Repak members must ensure that (as per the E U (Packaging) Regulations and Repak Scheme Rules (Click here for full details) they display a Certificate of Compliance in every premises. This certificate is available free to Repak Members. A full list of premises is required by Repak for our website. All members must update Repak anytime a new premises is acquired/opens or when a premises is no longer operational/owned by the member.
