ABP Cahir reduces plastic by over 61 tonnes as part of plastic pledge
ABP was founded in 1954 and is one of Europe’s leading food processors. Its core business – ABP Beef – is supported by its renewable pet food and protein divisions, ensuring the value of by-products is maximised and the environmental impact is minimised.
As an active Member of Repak’s Plastic Pledge and founding member of the Plastics Action Alliance, ABP initiated a number of plastic projects onsite at its HQ in Cahir, Co. Tipperary, contributing to a reduction in plastic usage on all machines onsite by an average of 46.6% per pallet, while over 80% of products are now in clear trays, making them easily detected for recycling. On a wider scale, a range of projects resulting in plastic reduction of over 61.45 tonnes have been completed since signing the pledge in 2018.
“ABP has experienced continued support from Repak in achieving targets, in particular a site visit, allowing us to identify reduction target areas onsite for avoidable single use packaging.”
