2025 Awards Categories

The Repak Resource Awards are now open for entries, and it's free to enter. With 12 categories, the awards are open to businesses, organisations, individuals, and community groups across Ireland. We want to hear how you are shaping Ireland's environmental and circular future. View categories below and access our sample entry template.

  • This category rewards a business (retail or non)/community organisation/school or individual or initiatives that demonstrate the extra steps taken to increase waste battery and electrical take-back for recycling and increase awareness of the need to recycle this waste stream.

  • This category rewards initiatives that exhibit and demonstrate leadership in managing and recycling their company’s waste within the business and professional services sector. Examples of best practice to drive and sustain recycling with a zero-waste concept should also be included as part of entry.

  • This category celebrates the support and success of all Deposit Return initiatives implemented. Entrants should highlight how they have achieved and excelled in championing DRS in their area and what sustainable results they have achieved.

  • Supporting the SUP Directive, this award recognizes business to consumer reuse systems that demonstrate that reuse can be the best option at scale. The majority of the marks awarded will be based on impact achieved, data collection including proof of concept with a methodology for managing and measuring impact along with ability to scale.

  • The Circular Community Award recognises community led initiatives that reduce waste, reuse resources, and inspire sustainable living through local action.

  • The Circular Design Award recognises innovative design in products, packaging or systems that prioritise resource efficiency and waste minimisation. This category is open to businesses, organisations and our Repak Plastic Pledge signatories.

  • This category recognises initiatives that promote ‘outside the box’ thinking, that increase recycling and resource waste management. The focus is on the uniqueness of the initiative, its scope, targets and its effects.

  • The ESG Leader Award will recognise an individual from one of Repak's 3,400 Members and over 100 Recovery Operators who has set an exceptional example and made outstanding contributions and achievements in the realm of Environmental, Social and Governance. This accolade acknowledges those who have not only demonstrated exceptional achievements but have also left a lasting legacy in their field. Note this category is not open for nominations.

  • This category recognises a business/organisation/community group/initiative that has successfully placed a new product or service on the market that makes an outstanding contribution to environmental protection and sustainability.

  • This category celebrates businesses and organisations that creatively use tyres or recycled rubber from tyres, to produce innovative and eco-friendly products. Extra points will be awarded for products and actions that replace imports, boost exports, and create jobs. It also recognises those that design and manufacture tyres in an environmentally sustainable manner along with businesses that reduce waste by sourcing more durable tyres. The use of retreaded tyres, which require less input material, is also commended. This award also celebrates businesses that excel in actively engaging with the community and promoting sustainable practices.

  • This category will reward a business/Local Authority/organisation who can demonstrate the steps that have been taken in trying to prevent waste, and use resources efficiently and showcase how campaigns, education or awareness schemes effectively communicated efforts.

  • This category is open to Recovery Operators/Local Authorities, and other organisations that demonstrate best in class recycling and recovery capabilities. Applicants must hold a current Waste Collection Permit and/or an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) permit or license for facilities that receive waste material for recycling or recovery.
