Irish residents are expected to recycle 49,000 tonnes of packaging waste this year, enough to fill the Aviva Stadium to its roof three times. It’s a scenario that 72% of the Irish public didn’t anticipate, but this Easter will again be celebrated in lockdown. With restrictions in place, according to our research, 45% say it is unlikely they will spend Easter with family this year. Despite this, 79% will still uphold their Easter traditions.

Read moreIreland expected to increase volumes of packaging over Christmas 2020
Ireland is expected to generate over 81,000 tonnes of packaging waste this Christmas, a 7% increase on 2019. The survey of 2,600 people in Ireland which examines how we will spend Christmas 2020 also reveals that many of us will be splashing out more on presents this year, with 16% planning to spend between €500-€750. Right now, 2 million more parcels are being posted a week in comparison to this time last year.

In 2020, packaging waste generated from online shopping in Ireland increased by a staggering 2,953 tonnes (25%), the equivalent of 15 million standard sized parcels or 9 parcels per each household. That’s according to data released today by environmental not-for-profit organisation, Repak.
