Packaging waste segregation: making the most of our resources

Your business continues to make a vitally important contribution to making Ireland one of Europe’s top recycling nations.

However it is important that despite current challenges in the plastic recycling markets, we continue this great work and that our used packaging continues to be viewed as an important resource that is sorted correctly before collection.

Businesses have a particular obligation to ensure that waste is segregated correctly and information in relation to the appropriate legislation that applies to businesses can be found here (Part II Condition 5 of the EU Packaging Regulations 2014 (S.I No. 282 of 2014) relates to the segregation of packaging waste).

The legislation applies to all packaging wastes generated on your premises i.e. packaging operations, warehousing, canteen facilities and offices.

Along with fulfilling a legal obligation it is important to note that by separating your packaging waste into mixed dry recyclables, food waste and residual waste you can reduce your waste costs and promote the efforts your business has made to maximise packaging recycling and reduce general waste.

If you have any queries in relation to your obligation under the EU Packaging Regulations or require any advice or assistance please do not hesitate to contact us here at Repak or speak to your waste contractor.
